Canine Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy can play a key role in the recovery of many musculoskeletal conditions which affect dogs like:
-
Hip and elbow dysplasia
-
Ligament and tendon damage like cruciate ligament damage
-
Osteoarthritis
-
Spinal conditions like degenerative myelopathy, spondylosis and fibro-cartilaginous embolisms
-
Joint problems
Each session includes an assessment of your dog which is done by watching the animal move and feeling all the tissues to help determine any issues and/or compensations the animal has. After a thorough assessment, the physiotherapist will create a treatment plan combining manual therapies like massage and stretching with electrotherapies like LASER.
Owners can do a lot with their dogs at home to increase the well-being of their pet, therefore, a remedial exercise plan is prescribed by the veterinary physiotherapist for the owner to do at home. Each exercise plan is specific to the individual requirements of the dog and each exercise will be demonstrated to you by the physiotherapist.
Please remember that before your animal can be seen by a physiotherapist, you must get a referral from your vet.
