Equine Physio

The Harrogate Vet Physio runs mobile equine clinics, travelling to your yard so that you do not have to transport you horse for treatment; ensuring your animal is relaxed and in their normal environment.

Some common injuries which can be treated using different therapeutic modalities include:

~ Muscle tears and strains

~ Tendon and ligament injuries or ruptures

~ Kissing spine - both before and after surgery

~ Osteoarthritis

~ Joint diseases

If you have noticed any changes in your horse and they are showing any of these signs, they may benefit from physiotherapy:

~ Behavioural changes

~ Not tracking up or a sudden change in stride length

~ Uneven shoe wear

~ Loss of muscle tone or uneven muscle tone

Competition or sports horses may benefit from physiotherapy both before and after competing. Massage can help to reduce tightness of muscles after an event and can be used before competing to ensure muscles are warmed up appropriately which will reduce the risk of muscles strains or tears.

Equine physiotherapists work closely with your vet, saddler, farrier, dentist and any other professionals to ensure that any problems which affect your horse are dealt with efficiently and quickly so that your horse can continue to perform accordingly.

A treatment plan will be tailored to your horses needs, your goals and capabilities. This plan may include manual techniques like massage and stretching as well as using electrotherapies if deemed suitable. Specific groundwork exercises using poles may also be prescribed as part of a remedial exercise programme.

Remember you will need a signed referral form from your vet before we can treat your horse.
